(Ladies don’t go drawing thin eyebrows on. This is strictly for Rihanna’s cover, not everyday life)
Under the direction of Edward Enninful, it was announced that Rihanna would be the cover girl for British Vogue’s biggest issue! Every fashionista knows the September issue for any magazine is a big deal. Not only is the largest issue of the year but it forecasts upcoming trends, what’s in and what’s out next season but we all look forward to the Fashion spreads! Who better Rihanna to take the reigns.
Enninful said himself, “Ultimately, September is all about the hits of the season – giving you, the Vogue reader, the authority to make the most informed style choices for the months ahead. As for the cover? I always knew it had to be Rihanna. A fearless music-industry icon and businesswoman, when it comes to that potent mix of fashion and celebrity, nobody does it quite like her. No matter how haute the styling goes, or experimental the mood, you never lose her in the imagery. She is always Rihanna. There’s a lesson for us all in that. Whichever way you choose to dress the new season, take a leaf out of her book and be yourself.”
Beyoncé was given creative control for her September issue of Vogue on the stateside. Tyler Mitchell was hand picked by Beyoncé to shoot the cover. He also was the first black person to have this opportunity in Vogue’s 125 year history! Word on the street is Anna Wintour is heading out so maybe things will shake up a bit at the Vogue headquarters! Beyoncé also does an expose’ on herself! How dope is that! Definitely looking forward to that read when it hit my mailbox!
Next up Lupita Nyongo covers Net-A-Porter, while Zendaya covers Marie Claire. Tracee Ellis Ross covers Elle Canada and Tiffany Haddish cover Glamour Magazine where she reveals she was sexually assaulted by a police cadet at age 17.
"That whole experience put me in such a messed-up place for a long time, and I ended up going to counseling," she said. She often hits on men first as a defense mechanism. Men need to understand no and that they don’t have access to women’s bodies as the please but that’s another post!
Yara Shahidi covers The Hollywood Reporter “Young Hollywood Issue”. Newcomer Slick Woods and her baby bump take on Elle UK. Issa Rae looks immaculate in Ebony and Oprah gives us “bootylicious” teas as she cover her own O Magazine! “How To Get Away With Murder” star Aja Naomi King talks about how she turned passion to purpose as Shape Magazine’s Cover girl.
“Blackkklansman” star Laura Harrier takes on The Sunday Times Style issue while Nicki Minaj will talk about her Chun Li/Barbie life in Harper’s Bazaar Russia!
Get into all this black girl magic!!! The majority of these magazines never had a black woman cover their September issue! This is not only groundbreaking but a historic moment in time and fashion!
