Yesterday, Kate Spade passed away at age 55 of an apparent suicide which brought so many emotions not just to me but everyone in the world! When I think of Kate Spade, I instantly think of her bright, bubbly accessories and clothing brand. Though Spade had sold Kate Spade more than 10 years ago, her persona was still the root of the company. I remember my first Kate Spade purchase like it was yesterday. I bought a phone case. When I say that was the most durable case I had for my phone, it legit had been through hell and my screen never broke! I went on to purchase a wallet (which I lost at Home Depot) and a card holder and more phone cases! Never in a million years did I think Kate Spade would commit suicide, especially knowing she sold her company to basically become a full time mom!
People still believe because you can’t see mental illness, it doesn’t exist. WRONG! It’s an ongoing battle that affects you everyday. I should know, I struggle with anxiety and depression pretty much on a regular bases but I’m learning how to take care of myself better. I think what was alarming was Spade’s sister saying she essentially was not shocked about her suicide and not only was she fixated about Robin Williams suicide but she has been battling mental illness and alcoholism for a while but refused help. What’s even sadder about the situation is she didn’t believe her child was worth living for. By no means am I judging her but I am just thinking about her impact on her 13 year old daughter.
Life is tough and everyone’s situation is different! But I am here to tell you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I am choosing life! Seek help and talk to your friends! People are so caught up in their own lives to really make sure their friends and family are ok. I’m at the point where I am cutting people off that only call to complain and are self centered! I don’t want to hear it anymore, get a journal or a therapist to figure it out! I cannot take on your stress on top of mine. I am the first person to admit that I have been to therapy and know the wonders the come with it!
Please take care of yourself. Then conquer the world!
